Aguonų Pyragas/ Poppy Seed Cake

Pagal/ Source ValgomEuropa

Šiandien jau sausio 2 diena.. Man kartais kyla klausimas- kada naujieji metai, jau nebe nauji? Nežinau ar čia naujametinė depresija užeina ar šiaip filosofinės nuotaikos, nes visi grįžta į darbus.

Taigi..

Gabaliukai: 10

1 gabaliuko energetinė vertė:
343 kcal, 11 gr.riebalų, 48,5 gr.cukraus

Produktai:

150 gr. aguonų
4 kiaušiniai (atskirti)
200 gr cukraus
100 gr. maltų džiūvėsių
0.5 a.š. cinamono
450 ml grietinėlės (35%)
250 gr. cukraus
Migdolų drožlių arba smulkintų riešutų papuošimui

Gaminimo procesas:

Today is January 2nd .. I sometimes wonder, when the new year becomes no longer new? I don’t know why I am thinking about it. Is it some kind of New Year depression or just a philosophical mood, because everyone is back to work already.

So .. This cake surprised me in a good way, it was fabulously delicious. I don’t think that that there would be better word than ‘fabulous’ to describe it.

There was such poppy seed cake, irresistible and melting in the mouth, that is always used to order in one restaurant .. and finally after so many years, I found that this is the recipe for that wonderful cake!

Makes: 10 servings

Nutritional value of 1 piece: 343 calories, 11 gr.fat, 48,5 gr.sugars

Products:

150 gr. Poppy seeds
4 eggs (separated)
200 gr. sugar
100 gr. breadcrumbs
0.5 tsp cinnamon
450 ml cream (35%)
250 gr. sugar
Chopped almonds or chopped nuts for decoration

Method:

Cover poppy seeds with boiling water and leave overnight. Strain through the sieve the poppy seeds and then process them in a food processor ( I did that with mixer and actually used the leftover ones from the poppy milk).

With an electric mixer beat the egg yolks with 200 gr sugar until light. Mixing continuously, add the poppy seeds. Then add breadcrumbs, cinnamon and mix everything well.

Beat egg whites until stiff peaks (do not overbeat) and fold them in gently, adding few spoons at a time to the poppy seeds mixture.

Pour the mixture into the baking form lined with a baking paper, I used 20cm round form. Bake in a preheated 180C oven for about 50 minutes. Check with a wooden toothpick.

About 20 minutes before the end of baking time, start preparing the cream. Add together cream and sugar in a heavy bottom pan. Mixing bring it to the boil and then simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the cream thickens and becomes similar to condensed milk.

When cake is ready remove it from the baking form (while it’s still warm) make wholes on the top with a wooden skewer and then pour slowly half of the prepared cream, let it be absorbed. The rest of the cream place back on the stove and simmer bit longer until it thickens and becomes more yellow. Then the cream evenly on the top of the cake, sprinkle with nuts and leave it to cool, then you can put for few hours in the refrigerator to set.

In Lithuania we also have many dishes with poppy seeds, so it's easy to get them there. Here I actually found the poppy seeds in Indian grocery shop :)
