Aloo ka rassawala shaak/ Bulvės jogurto padaže/ Potatoes in yogurt gravy

Pagal/ Source SanjeevKapoor

Jau skundžiausi, kad kiek ragavau Australijoje bulvės man neskanios.

I didn't know that potatoes are poison! I knew that I should eat the green ones, they are poisonous, but that it is possible to die after eating green potatoes or drinking potato leave tea I really didn't know.
I already complained that the potatoes in Australia don't taste good for me. Maybe it is because there are so many types of potatoes here and I don't know how to choose? I can honestly say, that I don't know how many types of potatoes we have in Lithuania, but it has never been a problem. I was never standing in the store near the shelf with at least five kinds of potatoes (in a small shop, in a supermarket even more..) You can choose according to the price, but I don't think that the price is a good indicator. You can choose according to what is written on a label what are they best for..but it doesn't mean you'll choose the best tasting ones. In this case I think the best is to try to buy different type every time and compare the taste. That I am doing. Still .. :)

Servings: 3

Cooking time: 20 minutes.

Products:

4 medium boiled potatoes, cut into pieces
1 cup yogurt
1 tbsp chickpea flour (I used wheat flour)
0.4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp butter ghee (I used oil)
Salt to taste
0.5 tsp cumin seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
1 tsp ginger paste
2 green chilies
0.4 tsp red chili powder
0.5 tsp garam masala

Method:

Whisk yogurt with flour, turmeric powder and salt. Add about 0.5 cup of water, then whisk well.

heat the butter (or oil) in a pan, add cumin seeds, when they begin to change color, add asafoetida, ginger and chopped green chilies. Stir-fry for about a minute, then add red chili powder and yogurt, stir everything well.

Add the potatoes and stir continuously until everything starts boiling. Then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Before serving sprinkle it with garam masala.
