Caramel Chicken/ Karamelinė vištiena

Pagal/ Source JanisCooking

Today I watched tv show, where they showed that portion of McDonalds BBQ sauce has more sugar in it that than chocolate sauce served with sundae. Sugar is evil, poison, and knows how to hide. But, no matter how much I hea about those terrible things I love sugar, I am not eating it with spoon, drinking coffee and tea without sugar, but I love sweets, and sometimes sweet sauce with meat. So lets enjoy chicken with caramel sauce.

Servings: 3-4

Cooking time: 30 minutes.

Products:

500 gr. chicken, cut into desired size pieces
1 onion (chopped)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 / 4 cup dark soy sauce
1 / 2 cup brown sugar
1 / 4 cup fish sauce
Oil for frying

Method:

Heat the oil in a skillet. Fry chicken on high heat from all sides until its cooked. Remove from skillet.

Reduce the heat and pour in little bit of oil. Add onion and garlic and fry for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the chicken back into the skillet, pour in soy sauce, add pepper to taste and mix well.

Cover pan, reduce the heat and cook everything for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Increase the heat, add sugar and stir well. Cook everything uncovered for about 3-4 minutes or until sauce darkens and becomes like syrup. Add the fish sauce and mix everything well. Serve with rice.

  3. Your chicken looks great. Yea, McD's is definitely on my list of least healthy places to go, but at least when we cook at home we can control the portions of ingredients going in.

  7. i'm glad you also tried the caramel chicken! did you love it? i was very happy with the recipe. thing is, i love Asian chicken dishes because they're sweet. but this one has a different kick. maybe because of the burnt sugar flavor brought by the caramel :)
